Pemra, CII, and NCCIA Put on Notice as IHC Takes Up Petition Against ‘Lazawal Ishq’ Show
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has taken notice of the controversy surrounding the reality show Lazawal Ishq after a petition was filed challenging its content on moral and cultural grounds. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, while hearing the case on Friday, issued notices to the federal government, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), and the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

The petition was filed by Amun Taraqqi Party (ATP) Chairman Faik Shah, who argued that Lazawal Ishq promotes obscenity and undermines Pakistan’s social and religious values. Shah claimed that the show’s portrayal of modern dating and liberal relationship themes is inconsistent with the country’s cultural and moral fabric.
He requested the court to direct PEMRA and PTA to tighten their monitoring of digital content and to seek guidance from the CII regarding the show’s alignment with Islamic principles. The IHC, after preliminary proceedings, sought written responses from all respondents involved.
